Red, White & BOOM! Increases Recycling Numbers

Columbus, Ohio (July10, 2009) Red, White & BOOM! offered recycling for the second year in a row and the people in attendance took full advantage of the “green” option by recycling 21,980 pounds of waste compared to the 2008 event, where 3,000 pounds were recycled.

"We are extremely pleased with the recycling results from Red, White & BOOM! It surpassed our goals and expectations. Central Ohio and Columbus residents clearly demonstrated their commitment to being environmentally conscious through the recycling effort. Rumpke is honored to have been part of such a great event and to work in partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Promotions One to bring recycling to BOOM!," said Todd Wielinski, Operations Manager for Rumpke.

Red, White & BOOM! partnered with Rumpke Recycling, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Promotions One, Inc. to place 250 recycling containers around the event. The 96-gallon recycling containers were green and easily identified by the bright yellow lid with a hole cut in the top. Attendees and vendors could recycle paper products, cardboard, plastic bottles, aluminum cans and glass bottles. Rumpke Recycling crews continually collected the recyclables during the event. The materials were transported to Rumpke Recycling’s material recovery facility, located on Fields Avenue in Columbus, for sorting and processing.
