Recycling Basics

A Rumpke Recycling rear load truck tips its load of single stream materialWhile metals, glass and paper have been recycled since recorded history, the recycling and reuse programs implemented during WWII are the beginnings of the present day recycling movement in the U.S. Since the 1940’s people have understood the value of reusing and recycling items that have been landfilled in the past. The Earth Day activities in the 1970’s rekindled the interest in recycling culminating in the nation wide landfill legislation in the 1980’s that set up stringent monitoring of landfills and set goals on diverting recyclable materials from the general trash.

Rumpke has always seen the importance of recycling materials rather than landfilling and is one of the few companies that provide both general trash services and recycling services under one company. This is a testament to the commitment Rumpke has made to provide the best recycling services to customers.

This helps conserve landfill space, natural resources, reduces energy usage and prevents pollution. Rumpke is committed to diverting recyclable materials from the landfill.
