The Residential Single Stream Process
The journey from your curb to a manufactured product typically occurs in the following manner:
-
Residents make the commitment to recycle.
-
Families place paper, glass bottles and jars, aluminum and steel cans, and plastic bottles in their Rumpke Recycling bin.
-
Each week, the family places their bin at the curb.
-
A Rumpke Recycling driver collects the material in a truck and transports it a Rumpke Recycling Material Recovery Facility (MRF).
-
At the MRF, the driver unloads the recyclables onto the tipping floor.
-
The recyclables move through a sorting station via conveyor belts.
-
Automated and manual sorting systems separate the materials into their respective categories.
-
The items are baled and shipped to their respective markets.
-
Manufacturers receive the recycled goods and make new products from the material.
