Portsmouth West Elementary Implements Recycling Program

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Sept. 29, 2008) Representatives from Rumpke Recycling and the Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District (LSSWMD) will speak about recycling to students at Portsmouth West Elementary on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at noon and 1 p.m.

The recycling presentations will launch the school’s new recycling program. The school will now be able to recycle paper, cardboard, aluminum cans and steel cans.

The interactive presentation teaches about proper garbage disposal in landfills and the importance of recycling. It also explores the “life cycle” of many products from the point of generation as a raw material to the point of recycling or disposal. Students will be asked to participate in a variety of ways to help demonstrate the benefits of recycling.

Rumpke Consolidated Companies, Inc. is one of the nation’s largest privately owned, residential and commercial waste and recycling firms. Rumpke provides service to areas of Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia and Indiana. The Rumpke business began in 1932, and its regional operation is located in Ironton, Ohio.
